Follow me on Twitter!

I finally made the jump to Twitter.  For those who are not familiar, Twitter is a micro-blogging service.  Basically, you post updates on what you’re doing throughout the day.  I thought it sounded inane when i first heard about it and didn’t want to detail my day for other people.  Then I read a few.  Then I signed up for an account and started following a few people.  Now I’m digging it.  Some people twitter more often than others, but it’s still fun to get an update from a cool artist or just random guy I don’t even know.  One person said she never thought anyone would find her posts interesting until she started doing them and people started reacting and commenting back.  I figure it’s a great way for people to see what an up and coming artist with a day job does and get to know me too.

Writer’s Night

A few weeks ago I noticed a posting on Craigslist: singer-songwriters wanted to open for experienced producer.  Normally, I would ignore such a thing, since it’s probably just some scam, but the gig was taking place at 12th & Porter, one of the prime rock venues here in Nashville.  I called and got put on the list of writers that would get 5 minutes each after the producer’s band played their show.  For some reason, that night I just didn’t feel up to going down there, so I stayed home and played with new iPhone instead.  Turns out, that was a good call.  The writer’s portion of the night got cut off because of a knife fight that took place just outside the club, who promptly shut everything down and sent everyone home.  I got a call a few days later from the show’s producer apologizing and offering me another slot for a writer’s night to be held later.

They called this week and the show will be October 29th, starting at 8 pm, at the Douglas Corner Cafe.  I believe its a 21+ venue and there’s no admission, plus we get to play two songs this time.  I saw Brittini Black play there once and could always see myself playing there, so it’ll be fun to be on that stage and rock the house.  Hopefully, my friends (and wife…) will come with me!

Bob Baker mention

One of many blogs I read on a regular basis is by the writer of Guerilla Music Marketing, Bob Baker.  I read an article a while back about how software developers were using a simple strategy to get people interested in their software:

  1. Tease
  2. Preview
  3. Launch

I immediately thought this would relate to what we do as musicians, but I didn’t have time to flesh it out.  I figured Bob was just the man to spell it out and share it with the world, so I emailed the article.  I just got an email from him today saying he read the article, blogged about it, and gave me a credit and link!  Thanks Bob!
