Belmont FYI, Photo of the Week
I made in the photo of the week for Belmont’s FYI newsletter! This week, Belmont hosted an inauguration viewing party and since they had great snacks and it was a historic event, I went and ate my share of snacks and watched the whole event with the crowd. The photographer who took the photo of the week was right behind me, so you can see the back of my head really well!
What do you mean you can’t see me? I’m slightly left of the middle, the first row in the picture. I’m wearing a gray fleece and have my sunglasses on my head. Yeah, it’s not like I was featured or anything, but I was there, front and center, so I had to point it out.

I don’t really know why the news of Heath Ledger’s death last year hit me like it did. I didn’t know him. I enjoyed his work, like millions of other people. For some reason I can’t explain, I felt like I lost a friend. Maybe it’s just that a fellow young artist died. Maybe his performances connected with me on an emotional level, like how many people connect with actors. Maybe I’m just sentimental – my wife and I watched Four Feathers on our first date. Maybe I’m just THAT big of a Batman fan.
Either way, I checked out this pictorial the other day that included interviews with his friends and people that worked with him. It was pretty amazing to hear from people who actually knew him and it gives you a different view of someone you may have only heard about through tabloids.
Today’s news that Heath got an Oscar nomination is a really good one though. His portrayal of the Joker in The Dark Knight was just bloody brilliant. I’ve been a Batman fan since I was a kid, but I’ve never been so excited to see the bad guy come on screen as with Heath’s Joker. There’s this sense of excitement and energy that forces you to keep your eyes glued on the character so you don’t miss a thing. So, congrats, Heath. Wish you were here to enjoy it.

About four years ago, my wife and I decided that we really needed to get out of debt. Debt has affected my life and everything I’ve done since my freshman year of college. That year, like an idiot, I applied for every credit card I was offered and ran them all up. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the discipline to stop myself from spending on them again and again, so I continued having credit card, which prevented me from doing really cool things like touring with friends, taking internships, and having the freedom to do what I want.
This marks a big month for me. It’s been 14 years since I got into credit card debt and now all my cards have a zero balance.

Now, I begin living again!

I played the William Smith Orchestra Writer’s Night last night. Casey Frazier (I mentioned him a few months ago) played a showcase at the beginning of the night, then the William Smith Orchestra did it’s thing. We writers played into the night and I was the ninth one on the list. We were only supposed to play one song, since so many writers showed up to play, but a few people didn’t get the memo. I followed the rules and only played Fantasy World, but shamelessly promoted my upcoming EP.
It was loads of fun and I’m really glad I got to play. The stage and sound at 12th & Porter is to be envied by all. Below is the video we shot with my new Flip Mino HD. Check it out!
