Mad Donna’s Is Out, Nuvo Burrito Is In!

I hate to say it, but it appears the Mad Donna’s show has been canceled.  The host, Garth McDermott, has parted ways with Mad Donna’s, so the December 9th gig is no more.  However, he did contact me about playing Tuesday, November 24th at Nuvo Burrito, so you’ll still have another shot at seeing me play here in Nashville before 2010!  The show starts at 7 pm and apparently this place makes crazy, awesome, non-traditional burritos.  Come on out, grab some grub, and enjoy the tunes!

Music Retail Graphs

Here’s a really cool set of graphs from Hypebot (read my thoughts below):

MusicRetail R7 Mint Music Retail Graphs

Physical vs Digital:

16% growth in the past two years, wow.  Part of me is still surprised that physical products still outsell digital products.  The other part of me realizes that labels seem to do everything they can to prevent themselves from making money in the digital realm, so it’s not that surprising that physical products still provide most of their income.  Their only hope is that they open up to digital, learn how to make money with it, and reap the benefits.

Digital Retailer Market Share:

No surprise here.  iTunes rules the roost.  I can’t wait to see this chart the year after Spotify gets here.  I bet it will take a sizeable chunk of this chart.  For now, I’ll have to check out this “Other” store though, they seem to doing quite well.  (j/k)

Monthly Transactions Per User:

I really have to wonder if the variable pricing thing has anything to do with the chart going up.  The new iPhone 3GS also came out in July.  In any case, even the modest boost in Rhapsody‘s numbers show that people are very interested in music, we jsut need to have access to it.

Spending:

Simple version:

Subscription services have a steady, predictable, going-along-with-the-pricing-plans numbers here.  Napster lost a bunch of customers while Rhapsody and eMusic gained.

iTunes has the lowest spending per transaction, but has had a slight growth per user.  I’m betting $.69 to $1.29 per track is too high of a price point, otherwise their numbers would be higher in both categories.

FYE and CD Baby have the highest per transaction numbers because people are forced to buy the entire CD at retail prices.  You’ll notice people aren’t spending as much there as before.

Fantasy World on Fame Games Qualifier!

Fantasy World made it onto the Fame Games Qualifier show yesterday, just like So Easily did last week. The DJ’s liked my vocal and liked the song, but thought the chorus was a bit weak.  I’m not really sure what that means, but there you go.  I did get two reviews late last week that loved it and boosted up my score!  Thanks Edgy and Mark3!

You can listen to the episode yourself here.  Fantasy World is #7 in the playlist, which makes it the first one in round two, about half-way through the show.

Fame Games Reviews

So I’ve just heard “So Easily” being played on the Fame Games Qualifier show. Not bad, but not great either. It appears that the bass on the intro doesn’t come through at all, so it just sounds like that tremolo guitar part goes on forever. Everyone liked my voice, but they didn’t think the track would make it on radio. Oh well, I think Don’t Leave Me Sunshine will do better, but we’ll see!

If you’d like to hear the show, click here to open to player. So Easily was the last track of the first half, so it’s almost half through the show.

Music Monday – 11:11 @ Common Grounds

If you didn’t hear, 11:11 was featured on blocSonic‘s 23rd Compilation, titled “netBloc 23: We Invented the Compilation“. Check it out and keep watching blocSonic for more great independent music.  Here’s my live version from the Common Grounds show in Lexington.

Music Monday: About Last Night @ Capalanos

We had a small crowd at this show, but we had fun anyway!  The sound guy at Capalanos, Steve, plays a mean harmonica, so I invited him to take the solo on “About Last Night”.

Anna took some pictures at the Common Ground show in Lexington.  Check out my new hat and tell me what you think!

Music Monday – Digital Love @ The Intrepid Traveller Cafe

This is one of my favorite songs to play! I hope you enjoy my version of “Digital Love”, originally performed by Daft Punk.
