More on the Taylor Swift saga. A friend of mine, Vince Romanelli, who plays for the awesome band, Philos, came up with the parody of Taylor’s song “You Belong With Me” and I had to share it. He even got mentioned by one of my favorite bloggers, Bob Lefsetz! Here’s “You Don’t Belong on MTV”:
Taylor Swift, Ever the Professional
I quit watching MTV a while ago. Like most people of my generation, we got sick of growing up with music videos 24/7 only to have it hijacked by Real World and other such junk programming. Frankly, if it weren’t for staged outrageous behavior, MTV would cease to exist.
I just saw this clip and I’m incensed and speechless. The Video Music Awards were held last night at New Yorks’ Radio City Music Hall and Nashville’s own Taylor Swift won the Best Female Video award. She gives an obviously emotional thank you speech and is interrupted by Kanye West, who claimed that Beyonce had one of the best videos ever made and then gives the mic back to Taylor. Rappers have always talked about respect and Kanye proves here that he gives and deserves none. The best part – after she recovered in a more professional manner than I could have (I would have knocked him flat), the audience gave her a no-less-than 20 second standing ovation, only cut off by MTV going to commercial. Beyonce even brought her back at the end of the night to give her acceptance speech again, with the audience again showing their appreciation. I have a new respect for Taylor, congratulations on your award.
